Pioneer Junior College (PJC) 2018
Mr Tan helped me with H2 Economics. As my foundation was weak, he was able to provide me with questions which gave me the opportunity to build good foundation in the basic concepts but also to build upon them. Although Mr Tan only came in 2 or 3 months before my A Levels, he was able to help me push my grades from 'S's and 'U's to a 'C' at the A Levels.
Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) 2018
Mr Tan helped me with my A-Level Economics. During lessons, he is strict, setting high expectations for his students, yet he is also polite and meticulous when disseminating information. During Prelims, my grades were 'U', but with Mr Tan’s unwavering support, I attained a 'C' in A-Levels.
National Junior College (NJC) Year 2018
Mr Roland helped me tremendously in my GP journey towards A levels. For the whole of my first year in JC, my GP grades were a consistent E. Despite my school's remedial programmes, my grades did not seem to be improving. Through the recommendation from my friend's mother, I enrolled under Mr Roland's tuition. From then on, my grades in GP steadily improved. At the end of As, I ended up scoring a B which was surprising, considering the huge jump from E to B. As we all know, GP is very subjective to mark and Mr Roland understood that. He was patient and knowledgeable in various GP topics, encouraging me to explore the topics I am interested in. He gave me ample amount of content and vocabulary for the essay components, as well as the necessary skills needed to tackle the comprehension component. I was particularly weak in my essays in terms of finding the right content and using appropriate vocabulary. From the first few lessons, Mr Roland identified my strengths in certain topics and told me to focus on these few topics. He helped me hone my diction and content for the topics that I am particularly good in. This helped me gain confidence in essay writing which translated to better marks in my essays.
In collaboration with KRTC, we spent a week in Genta Bali to visit both the elementary and secondary schools there to witness firsthand how the teaching & learning is being carried out there. We also shared with them the finer art of teaching English language and how they can enhance the students' learning which is understandably a challenging task given that most are not exposed to the language at all when they begin their Grade One education.
In between lessons, we also conducted interactive activities that required them to communicate using basic English. These were both classroom as well as hall activities involving a few classes. We met up with the parents too to discuss on ways which teachers could bring out the optimal learning outcome of their children. We had good netwoking with the teachers whom we finally got to meet in person after more than half year of weekly Zoom meetings.
